FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE
EXPANDING
AVAILABILITY OF ALANINE DOSIMETERS
(Goleta,
California, USA and Leipzig, Germany): Far West Technology, Inc
(FWT) USA since early 2004 is the exclusive distributor in North
America and non-exclusive distributor in the rest of the world
for Alanine dosimeters manufactured by Gamma-Service Produktbestrahlung
GmbH, Germany. FWT and Gamma Service are working in close collaboration
to develop the Alanine product for routine dosimetry applications.
Companies
utilize radiation processing to treat healthcare products, consumer
and food items. They need improved methods for measuring the delivered
dose to a product. Alanine offers this with a broader measurement
range between 2 to 200 kGy.
"Since
1999 I have been using these Alanine pellets and achieving better
than 1% accuracy" said Marc Desrosiers of National Institute
of Standards and Technology (NIST) USA, "which is excellent
for our type of work."
Manfred Frenzel,
Head Dosimetry at Gamma Service stated, "We developed this
product because Alanine is where dosimetry for industrial irradiation
processing is going in the future. Working with FWT gives us greater
access to companies in the United States and elsewhere."
According
to John Rickey, CEO of FWT, "We are excited about offering
Alanine pellets and film dosimeters manufactured to the highest
quality standards and proven over a 10-year period. Alanine complements
the FWT radiochromic film dosimeters giving customers more options
to treat a wide variety of products at different temperature levels."
Their research
and development plans include new packaging, bar-coded for better
data capture thereby reducing errors, and to improve ease-of-use
in routine applications.
